Last year I decided to spend my final semester of law school abroad in Mexico City, where I will be studying law at the Universidad del Pedregal. Although the program is through Pacific McGeorge, I'll be the only gringa in my classes as far as I know. All of my classes will be taught in Spanish, which will entail A LOT of hard work, but I'm looking forward to speaking and listening to Spanish all of the time. I hope to be pretty darn good by the time I come back.
The McGeorge Alumni Development Office is paying me to blog about my trip. So, here goes.
My term doesn't begin until January 28th, but I'm leaving a few weeks early to travel. One of my very best friends, Katie, who I studied with in Chile (and who's getting married in July!! Congratulations Katie & Arash!!), will travel with me for the first week and a half, and after that I'll be on my own.
So far, Katie and I think that we'll stay in Mexico City for a few days after we get there and see where that takes us. We arrive January 5th, one day before the Dia de Los Reyes, so I'm really excited about all of the celebrations that'll be going on in the city. Also, I was lucky enough to be invited to the home of one of my future classmates to share the holiday dinner with her and her familia. Afterward, we want to spend a lot of time exploring Mexico City, and maybe taking some trips to Cuernavaca, Tula, Guanajato, or other nearby towns. We'll stay in hostels and travel by bus, so we'll for sure have a ton of good stories. Right now we're researching hostels and where the good vida nocturna is.
After Katie takes off, I'll travel on my own for a couple of weeks before my classes start. I want to spend a lot of time in Guadalajara and Morelia, and if there's time left, I really want to head down the Pacific Coast to surf in the smaller surfing villages. And nope, I'm not nervous about traveling on my own. More than anything I'm just already annoyed with the taxistas and the jerks who will try to sell me shellfish or other stupid stuff on the bus, even though I'm not there yet.
That's all for now. This'll get more interesting once I leave in 3 weeks, when I'll be able to post pictures and have actual stories.
